About this website.
The purpose of this website is to create a place for all members of our Clan to gather, share our heritage, experience and stories, and create a record for posterity so that our descendants may share in the pride we have of our history.
As our Clan has grown and multiplied across land and sea, into regions both friendly and hostile, into countries both foreign or local and into cultures both familiar or exotic, we still remain as branches of the original tree. We are Burkes, irrespective of how we spell our name. Our blood unites us, our DNA confirms it, and the core purpose of this website is to continue the research so that our Clan maintains its unique identity.
We’re not asking you to strap on your armour, shout our battle cry and enter into conflict, but we’re asking you to join us, your Clan – so that we can face the future. Together.
What’s contained in this site:
- General information about Burkes/Bourkes/Burks/De Burgs and other spellings of the clan name.
- Information about DNA and genealogy.
- Information about different genetic testing types
- A Search facility to allow Clan members to find others
- A Research collection facility to enable Clan members to enter information about family members so that they and others may benefit.
- A blog area where members can post information and interact with other Clan members.
In addition, if you take all the areas above and add them together, you’ll also see that what we have here is a sense of unity, togetherness and solidarity that will keep the Clan strong and ensure the history of our ancestors is not lost for future generations.
Memberships:
Standard Membership.
Before you can access any potentially sensitive information on this website, we require you to create an account so we can verify that you are who you say you are. We do this to protect the security of all our members. It also gives us a chance to keep in touch with you when we find really useful and interesting information.
Once you’ve done the basic signup for a Standard Membership, you have the option to purchase three tiers of membership, which give you access to different parts of the website and escalating privileges to interact with your Clan. Apart from the obvious benefits of access, you’ll also be supporting your Clan, and helping to keep this website afloat.
Bronze Warrior Membership
Despite the distinctly male flavour of the product icon and title of these memberships, it’s important to note that we are keen to promote the unity of our Clan, irrespective of age, gender, colour, religion or other discerning characteristics. It’s equally as important to understand that historically, the females in our Clan have been equally as fierce in the protection of their family as their male counterparts!
The Bronze Warrior Membership gives you access to the Burke Blog as well as the ability to search our archive for potential family contacts.
Silver Knight Membership
Again, the Knights and Dames within our Clan are equally as welcome and respected, and as befits persons of that stature, have access to even more content and functionality within the website. As you might expect, you’ll have access to all the features of the lower level memberships.
A major feature is that by purchasing this Membership level, you’ll be able to add multiple ancestors and family members to the Burke archive so that you and the rest of your Clan may benefit from the connection and communal knowledge.
Gold Baron Membership.
Baron or Baroness, we all bow before you! This Membership level is the highest tier, and as expected, has the greatest level of functionality. Obviously, you’ll have access to all the features of the lower level memberships.
Here you’ll be able to create your own posts on the Burke Blog so you can keep the rest of your Clan informed about what’s going on in your world. There’s a really simple interface to use, so you can write your content, add images and once the Administrator approves, the posts become viewable to the rest of the registered members.
In addition, we may ask people within this level to assist us in the management of the website content by becoming moderators.
